Last Day Pregnant with Micaiah!
9.03.2010
I must be sitting in our living room for too long, because I have come up with the PERFECT way to rearrange everything to have more room, meaning more room for baby stuff. However, I can't help move anything, so Hart's not too excited about my plan. Haha!
I am writing to say that Bed Rest has not been completely boring. Just like normal life, you have a million things to do, while resting, of course, and not enough time to do them. I.E. writing thank you's, etc. I've had amazing friends to help do so many daily chores and my wonderful husband has been doing double his part, too! It has meant so much!
I have been slow to write about some of my Bed Rest adventures, because people around me tend to get a little overprotective and they like to tell you what to do. Everyone knows I just LOOOOVE people telling me what to do... (Maybe, it's just the bossy older sister rebelling inside of me. No, really, I'm just sassy. However, you go on bed rest. Lay around all day depending on others. Stand up for 2 minutes. And someone tells you to sit down. Okay. Really?)
Sorry, for the rant. I must admit that Week 3 of bed rest has been the most successful, so far, and I really have only had like one visitor a day this week, which is the perfect amount. I am getting good at speaking my mind and being honest with people. Okay. I've kinda always been good at those things, but at first, so many sweet friends wanted to help out that I just didn't know how to limit that time. Now, I feel better about my boundaries and know when I need to be resting by myself or can be with others.
Here are a few Bed Rest Adventure Highlights (that I hope don't get me in trouble):
1)Riding the motorized wheelchair in Publix. Hart challenged me to do a 3 point turn in the CHIP aisle, of all places. I almost smashed the entire Ruffles section to bits. I also have a new respect for those that must ride the motorized wheelchair. Why does the person 4 aisles down need to hear that you are BACKING UP. Beep Beep Beep. It's horrendously loud.
2)A treat that I have been allowed on occasion has been to float flat in the pool. It has been so calming to just float in the sunshine. I have a new appreciation for the sunshine and God's creation.
3)I guess this isn't really an adventure, but more a highlight. My friend, Abby, came over and brought her dog, Sarah, to play with Abe. We were just sitting on the swing on my porch (feet propped up...you have to clarify or else people will start complaining I am not resting properly), and I asked her what she would do to make our porch work for us better. She then created a "Conversation Zone" and an "Eating Zone." She dragged some furniture around and my new found highlight place is my porch. I just sit out there and read or pray, and just enjoy being outside. I was too busy for my porch before bed rest. It is a beautiful porch, made for a beautiful lady, Mrs. Gail, and I think I am just starting to love it as much as she did!
4)Getting to meet new friends. People that I didn't know very well have become some of the people that have served me the most during this time. Angela, Abby, Rebekah, Kassidee.... These are some sweet ladies that I didn't know before well at all, but they have taken their time to come and serve me more than once. It is really really sweet.
5)Restoring relationships around me. My family and close friends have all been here for me the past few weeks. My mom, Elizabeth, my Aunt Kathe, Hart... It has been nice to have my family and friends (even those not mentioned) around to love on me. I've really loved my time with all the people walking through our doors each day. It's so neat how God is showing me once again the body of Christ through so many of his loved ones!

6)Getting to try new food! With the yummy meals people have been providing for us, I was a little surprised I lost a pound from Tuesday, this week, to Friday. I can't even say how much all this means to me!
Those are just a few... I'm sure there are more to come!

A nice, dull, throbbing headache, like a migraine, came on around lunchtime yesterday. It stayed with me for the remainder of the day, and then intensified a lot around 8 pm. Was this a headache only? Was this a symptom of preeclampsia, meaning that my blood pressure was rising? Should I call the doctor? I looked up symptoms of preeclampsia again online and it said to call the doctor if you have a dull, throbbing headache, and you were sensitive to light. Check to all of the above. I decided that I would try to relax in a warm bath, have my sweet husband give me a massage, and just go to bed. If it still hurt in the morning, then I would call the doctor. I slept really well, but I had to get up a few times to go potty. Each time, my head felt like it was going to explode. I woke up and I didn't even want to get up, because I felt the pressure in my head.
I called the doctor. They told me to come in. Just wonderful.
This is where I think I maybe freaked out that I have really done NOTHING to be ready for this baby to come early. The nursery is fine, but I don't have bags packed for either me or baby. No carseat installed. What if they admit me straight from the doctor's office?
Hart took me in and they checked everything. My blood pressure was higher than Tuesday when I went at 142/80, but everything else was pretty normal. My doctor wasn't in today, so they called him and then we checked the baby's heartbeat, and measured me again. All normal. They did decide to draw some blood work to make sure that nothing was sneaking up on them. My Anti K titer had gone WAY down! Praise the Lord. It's only at 64 right now! That's the lowest it has ever been.
My prescription was to go home, continue to rest, take some Tylenol every 4 hours, and drink some caffiene, which I interpreted to mean that meant that we needed to go to Starbucks and get some coffee. So we went to Target on the way home, because we were out of Tylenol almost, and they have a Starbucks inside. Don't worry. I didn't walk around the store at all.
Now, I'm back at home, for Bed Rest Day 9 of 28.
I had a pretty crazy day this past Tuesday with going to the doctor, and then having my last baby shower, which was completely awesome. Everyone came to me in my house, and surrounded me with love! I did have an RN (one of my hostesses!) check my BP before and after the shower, and strangely it was lower AFTER all the fun. Leave it to me to love being social so much that really a huge party can actually LOWER my blood pressure! haha. I went to bed and had a very nice, rather lonely, but still good recovery day yesterday. And I plan to do the same today.
So I guess maybe I just have had a migraine, which I don't ever get, but Tylenol and Starbucks did help! And I had a lot of fun getting the treat of coffee. Just keep us in your prayers!

I'm reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan right now. Ch. 1 he has you focus on/stand in awe of who our Creator is! Ch 2 began and it is by no mistake that I am reading this book, today, Day 2 of Bed Rest. It's a good thing I believe in a sovereign God, because it's really applying to my life at the moment!
He writes, "It's easy to think about today as just another day. An average day where you go about your day concerned about your to-do list, preoccupied by appointments, focused on family, thinking about your desires and needs. On the average day, we live caught up in ourselves. On the average day, we don't consider God very much. On the average day, we forget that our life truly is a vapor."
Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit"--yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:13-14
I have to confess that I have done all of these things for way too long. I've already had moments in my life similar to this time where God makes you STOP and realize that your life is truly a vapor. It only takes a threat to your God-given health that you realize that God really is in control of your average day, of your very breath your breathe, of each detail inside of it. I was so busy with getting things accomplished that I brushed by my Savior WAY too often with an, "I'll get to you later, Lord. Please, leave a message, and I'll deal with it another time."
I'm forced to be still before the Living God. I'm forced to confess before him my sin, as he MAKES ME LIE DOWN in green pastures. I'm thankful for this part of Bed Rest, the part where God reveals himself to you if you give him your time!
