I'm reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan right now. Ch. 1 he has you focus on/stand in awe of who our Creator is! Ch 2 began and it is by no mistake that I am reading this book, today, Day 2 of Bed Rest. It's a good thing I believe in a sovereign God, because it's really applying to my life at the moment!
He writes, "It's easy to think about today as just another day. An average day where you go about your day concerned about your to-do list, preoccupied by appointments, focused on family, thinking about your desires and needs. On the average day, we live caught up in ourselves. On the average day, we don't consider God very much. On the average day, we forget that our life truly is a vapor."
Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit"--yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:13-14
I have to confess that I have done all of these things for way too long. I've already had moments in my life similar to this time where God makes you STOP and realize that your life is truly a vapor. It only takes a threat to your God-given health that you realize that God really is in control of your average day, of your very breath your breathe, of each detail inside of it. I was so busy with getting things accomplished that I brushed by my Savior WAY too often with an, "I'll get to you later, Lord. Please, leave a message, and I'll deal with it another time."
I'm forced to be still before the Living God. I'm forced to confess before him my sin, as he MAKES ME LIE DOWN in green pastures. I'm thankful for this part of Bed Rest, the part where God reveals himself to you if you give him your time!
