Did that title get your attention? I know it got mine...
This is Hart. I know, it's been a while since I've posted anything of significance. But I hope y'all have enjoyed as much as I have all the posts my wife has been doing these last few months!
Anyways, I saw this video over at Precious Adornment's blog, and I wanted to share it with y'all.
In the video is Matt and Sarah Hammitt. Matt is the lead singer for a band that I'm a big fan, Sanctus Real. And on Santucs Real's newest CD is a song called "Lead Me". This song was written by Matt for his wife and kids. And as a husband, and soon-to-be daddy, I can completely relate to this song because it deals with the husband and his responsibility of leading his family in a godly manner. And as you husbands know, that can be such a hard thing to do. As you know, even though God commands you to love your wife like Christ loves the church, it's so much more easy to be selfish and want to put yourself and your needs first. And as silly as this may sound, it's also easy to be intimidated by the thought of having to lead your wife and kids in Bible studies. But that's what God calls us men to do! So we've got to do it! And guess what? If you're not doing it, then your marriage, and your relationship with your kids are either already really suffering, or are going to really suffer. So the last thing I have to say is this: Men, we must stop acting like little boys. We must stop being selfish, and pursuing our wants and needs, and putting us first. We must love our wives first. We must love them like Christ loves the church. We must not provoke our children to anger, but rather love them, and bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. We must man up! (If you want to hear a sermon that will pump you up [and also really convict you on how bad a job you've done at being a godly man] go listen to this sermon by Mark Driscoll.)
Anyways, here is the video interviewing Matt and Sarah about the song "Lead Me":
And here is video of the song, and the lyrics are below:
"Lead Me"
I look around and see my wonderful life
Almost perfect from the outside
In picture frames I see my beautiful wife
Always smiling
But on the inside, I can hear her saying…
“Lead me with strong hands
Stand up when I can’t
Don’t leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, what about us?
Show me you’re willing to fight
That I’m still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone”
I see their faces, look in their innocent eyes
They’re just children from the outside
I’m working hard, I tell myself they’ll be fine
They’re independent
But on the inside, I can hear them saying…
“Lead me with strong hands
Stand up when I can’t
Don’t leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, but what about us?
Show me you’re willing to fight
That I’m still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone”
So Father, give me the strength
To be everything I’m called to be
Oh, Father, show me the way
To lead them
Won’t You lead me?
To lead them with strong hands
To stand up when they can’t
Don’t want to leave them hungry for love,
Chasing things that I could give up
I’ll show them I’m willing to fight
And give them the best of my life
So we can call this our home
Lead me, ’cause I can’t do this alone
Father, lead me, ’cause I can’t do this alone
It's Time to Man Up All You Little Boys!
