Pregnancy Power Foods


Nutrition is a huge part of being pregnant. While I am only in my 10th week of pregnancy and most foods make me want to turn up my nose and spray some air freshener, I have found some foods that I enjoy. I made this list from a little bit of research that I did of some good things that I would like to try to do better at eating! These are suppossed to be good while being pregnant, but all are healthy, so even if you are NOT pregnant, then you can still benefit!

1)Broccoli - some say eat this when you crave chocolate; I do NOT know who made up that idea!
2)Fortified Breakfast cereals
3)Asparagus - Drizzle with olive oil, and salt and pepper and put it in the oven for 10 mins! Yum!
4)Dried beans and lentils - add to salads or eat with rice if you cannot down too much of this protein packed food
5)Nonfat milk
6)Bananas - put them in a blender with yogurt, berries, ice, and a splash of O.J.
7)Lean Meat - Turkey/Chicken (I am having aversions to chicken right now for some reason)
8)Black eyed peas - I do not know why, but I really like these!
9)Cheese(s) - no soft unpasteurized cheese allowed, but cheddar and mozzarella are good souces of calcium and protein
10)Eggs- Hard boil them and eat for a snack
11)Oatmeal - haven't incorporated this one, but I should!
12)Leafy Greens - ex. spinich (choose this for lettuce), kale, turnips
13)Whole Grain Bread - switch if you haven't! Good source of fiber
14)Oranges - I've been taking one a day and its great!
15)Nuts and nut butters (almonds) - not really sure about the nut butter, but I want to try it at least once
16)Soy foods - try drinking chocolate soy silk! It's like choco milk, but you get the soy!
17)Dried fruit - you can incorporate this in with some nuts for a good trail mix to graze on
18)Avocados - Make guacamole and serve with tortilla chips!
19)Berries - throw them in with that smoothie!
20)Sweet potatoes - eat the skin for added vitamins!
21)Yogurt - good for a snack on the go
22)Dark chocolate - for when you crave chocolate and broccoli will not suit!
