The Gospel...

2.17.2010

The Gospel is this: God is holy. And being holy He hates sin and must come against it with perfect righteousness. On that tree when the Son bore your sin, the Father crushed Him under the full weight of His wrath. And when Jesus having experienced your suffering and died in your place, He paid in full. And when He rose from the dead, that was God's public declaration to us that what His Son did on that tree provided for our justification. On the 40th day He arose and is now seated at the right hand of God on high. God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ, and God commands all men everywhere to repent of their sins and believe on Jesus the Christ.

But with Gospel promise comes Gospel warning: If you reject this Christ this day and you continune rejecting Him, there remains no sacrifice for sin, there remains no hope, only a fearful expectation of justice. And another gospel warning follows: Even if you profess faith in Christ today, and you rejoice with great joy, know this, even that joy can be deceiving. There must be a continuing evidence. Not only will you rejoice today, or begin following Him today, or repent today, or believe today, but you will go on repenting, go on believing, and growing in that repentance and faith all the days of your life until He calls you home. If that does not happen, you have not known Christ this day.
