Oh the Depth and the Riches of God!

5.07.2009

One of our pastors teaches a weekly study in which he is going "Through the Bible in Three Years". The last 3 weeks he has been going through the book of Romans, and is planning to teach one more lesson next week before moving on. Anyways, this morning he was in Romans 8. If you right click on this link and select "Save As..." you can download an MP3 version of the sermon to your computer. And I would highly recommend you doing that. It was an excellent message!

I wanted to share 1 thing Pastor Legare said that I have been chewing on since then.

He was talking about how when we Christians get to Heaven, sometimes we think that at that moment we'll finally have all of God figured out. We'll know everything about Him. But the reality is that we are going to be spending an eternity learning about our God. And guess what? We will never fully know God, because if we did, then we would be equal to Him. And as I've chewed on that, it just blows my mind to think how vast and deep God is!

I can't wrap my mind around eternity. But I know it's forever, and it just leaves me marveling at God to think that through the course of eternity we will still be learning about His majesty and splendor! I'm reminded of the verse in Amazing Grace:
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.
Afer 10,000 years we will still be singing God's praise because we will still be growing in our knowledge of Him!

I wonder if Paul was thinking about this, and this is why he breaks out with this declaration in Romans 11:33-36:
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, OR WHO BECAME HIS COUNSELOR? Or WHO HAS FIRST GIVEN TO HIM THAT IT MIGHT BE PAID BACK TO HIM AGAIN? For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.
